Hi;

My Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop is acting somehow strange.
It works well and if i lift it or move it, it will not freeze. But after a while (that's not predictable) the screen freezes and when I lift the laptop or move it, it restarts. I have checked the mainboard for any soldering troubles, but didn't find any.
I have to mention that the I/O controller IC from Intel on the Mainboard gets very hot sometimes.
I also check the CPU and HDD temperature, they are normal.
Looking forward to your advice.

jvicknpc,

My almost new Acer laptop freezes if you pick it up or move it. Acer wanted $65.00 to fix it even though it is under warranty.Iam not experienced enough to open it up and mess with the internal parts. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It's hard to tell what is wrong. Could be something simple like loose memory module or something complicated like failing motherboard.
First, I would try reconnecting both memory modules. Also, try reconnecting the hard drive. If it doesn't help, send it to Acer for repair.
Not sure why they are charging $65 for a warranty repair. Maybe they think this is a software related problem. There shouldn't be any charges for hardware repair under warranty.

Nishant,

I am facing exactly the same problem. But in my case, the laptop freezes for about half a second, there’s a buzzing sound and then it becomes normal again…. Its a toshiba satellite u600….purchased it around 2 weeks back…..

Maybe you have hard drive protection software enabled. It's possible the laptop freezes for a moment because of these software.
Disable the hard drive protection software for a while and try again. Does it fix your problem?

Aun Raza,

My Acer Laptop behaving very strangly……
its works when u move it or lift it from any flat surface…..
it wont work on the flat surface but as soon as u lift it from the surface,it will start working normally.
i hav cleaned the fan and hav reseted the cpu.. but no luck….
any idea???

How exactly it's failing? No video?
Try reconnecting memory modules. Maybe one of the modules is not making good connection with the slot.
Try removing memory modules one by one. Test the laptop with each one separately.
