The laptop screen works normal but one or few colors are missing. All colors are displayed properly on an external monitor connected to the laptop. The colors are missing only on the laptop screen.
1. Poor connection between the video cable and LCD screen or motherboard/video card.
2. Defective video cable.

Image on the laptop screen has slight ghosting behind letters and icons. If you adjust the display and find the right position the ghosting disappears but it comes back if you move the display again. The laptop doesn’t have any ghosting on the external monitor. The ghosting appears only on the laptop screen.

Image on the laptop screen slowly fades to white. If you torque the display or move it up and down the image goes back to normal. As soon as you release the display, the image stars fading to white again.
LCD screen failure.
Laptop starts as normal but colors on the laptop screen appear to be inverter. The image on the screen looks more like a negative image. Colors on the external monitor connected to the laptop look normal. Reinstalling the video driver doesn’t fix the problem.

There is a stripe running from top to bottom on the laptop screen. The stripe could be a few pixels or few inches wide. The image on the left and right side from the stripe is normal. The stripe could be filled with solid color or has many thin vertical lines inside. The strip appears on the screen as soon as you turn on the laptop, even before the operating system starts loading.


1. LCD screen failure (most likely).
2. Video board failure (less likely).
Laptop displays some random characters on the screen with initial manufacturer’s logo. Random characters are scattered all over the screen and appear as soon as you start the laptop.
You can distinguish vertical rows or random characters.
1. Shared video memory failure.
2. Video card failure.
3. LCD screen failure.

Laptop LCD screen has horizontal lines when adjusting the screen position. When the screen is untouched, lines disappear and image on the screen goes back to normal.
As soon as you start moving the screen, lines come back.
1. Poor connection between the video cable and LCD screen. The video cable is a cable which transfers data signal from the motherboard to the LCD screen.
2. The video cable is defective.
3. The LCD screen failure.
Laptop LCD screen display one or more thin vertical lines running from top to bottom. The lines appear on the screen as soon as you start the laptop, even before Windows started loading.
The lines might multiply over time and change color.
The lines appear even in the BIOS setup menu.
