The laptop screen screen is very loose and wobbly. The screen can stay in the upright position but it doesn’t feel secure.

Possible cause:

1. Screws securing the hinges are loose.
2. One of the screen hinges is broken.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution:

1. Screws securing the screen hinges could be loose. Tightening screws on the hinges can help to make the screen less wobbly.

Screws securing the screen hinges could be found in the following locations
- On the bottom of the laptop. Search for screws located right under hinges. Usually only one screw secures each hinge on the bottom. Try tightening these screws.
Here’s an example:

- On the back side of the laptop. Search for screws located right behind the hinges. It’s possible that you have more than one screw securing each hinge. Thy tightening these screws.
Here’s an example:

- Under the switch/speaker cover – a piece of plastic located above the keyboard. You can access these screws if you remove the cover.
Here’s an example:

- Inside the display panel. In order to access these screws it is necessary to remove the screen bezel.
Here’s an example:

2. It’s possible that one of the screen hinges is broken. If that’s the case, you’ll have to replace the hinge with a new one.

The laptop screen will not stay in the upright position. When you open the display at a 90 degree angle it will not stay in that position. The screen either falls back or forward.

Possible cause:

One or both display hinges are broken.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution:

Most likley one of the hinges, or both hinges are broken. You have to disassemble the display panel and find out which hinge is broken. When you replace the broken hinge, do not forget to inspect the second one. If the second hinge feels loose, consider replacing it too.

If one of the hinges is broken try replacing it as soon as posible. Using the laptop with a broken hinge may cause the video cable or LCD screen damage.
