Spontaneously the laptop screen will “freeze” the current image and then slowly turn white with some faint gray blotches. If I move the top of the laptop toward me, sometimes the image comes back to normal. If I move it backward, then the image freezes and goes white again. The laptop works fine with the external monitor.

1. Bad connection between video cable and LCD screen.
2. LCD screen failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution:

First of all, try reconnecting the video cable on the back of the LCD screen. It’s possible that video cable is not making good contact with the LCD screen.

If reconnecting the cable doesn’t help, most likely this is LCD screen failure. Apparently there is a faulty component or solder joint on the screen controller board. In this case the LCD screen has to be replaced with a new one.

The laptop was dropped and the screen is white now. Video on the external monitor works fine but the laptop screen shows only white color, nothing else.

1. Video cable disconnected from the LCD screen.
2. Damaged LCD screen.

1. Check connection between the video cable and LCD screen. It’s possible that the video cable got disconnected when the laptop was dropped. Try reconnecting the video cable first. Make sure the video cable seateed all the way down into the connector on the back of the LCD screen.

2. If reconnecting the cable doesn’t help, most likey you damaged the LCD screen. The screen has to be replaced.

The laptop starts but the screen is completely white.

Possible cause:

1. Video cable got disconnected from the LCD screen.
2. LCD screen failure.
3. Motherboard failure.

First of all, check out the video cable connection on the back of the LCD screen. It’s possible that overtime the video cable got loose and disconnected from the LCD screen. Reconnect the cable and test the laptop again.

Test your laptop with an external monitor. If video on the external monitor works fine but the laptop screen is white, most likely your problem is related to the LCD screen failure. Replace the screen with a new one.

If a new LCD screen doesn’t resolve the problem, most likely you have a faulty motherboard. You’ll have to replace the motherboard.

Image on the laptop screen slowly fades to white. If you torque the display or move it up and down the image goes back to normal. As soon as you release the display, the image stars fading to white again.

LCD screen failure.

The image fades to white because you have a failing LCD screen. In order to fix this problem, you’ll have to replace the LCD screen with a new one.
You still should be able to use the laptop with video on the external monitor.
