Vertical lines on screen running from top to bottom

Problem description:

Laptop LCD screen display one or more thin vertical lines running from top to bottom. The lines appear on the screen as soon as you start the laptop, even before Windows started loading.

The lines might multiply over time and change color.

The lines appear even in the BIOS setup menu.

Possible cause:

LCD screen controller board failure.

The LCD screen has to be replaced.
